Inspirational Poster Promos

A new set of promos will be dropping into the inboxes of creatives across the East Coast shortly as part of a large marketing push I’m making. I’m dubbing them “Inspirational Poster Promos” and I think the description fits well.

The idea first came about when a larger production test shoot that I had planned cancelled with only a few hours before call time. The models ended up booking a last minute gig. Since I had the time still available and team ready to go, I wanted to go ahead and at least do something. I decided to at least do a few simple beauty images with half a day - something I’ve been expanding into.

About a half hour after calling the agency to confirm, I got bored with the idea of simple beauty and wanted to find something to kick it up another level and add some playfulness to it. I had some left over sunflowers from a shoot the previous day and thought they might add a colorful element. That got me to thinking, why not make an entire rainbow of color beauty shots? I scrambled writing down ideas and ran out to a few local shops nearby to pick up props. I even ended up buying an indigo/blue betta fish. We’ve named him Chuck Lee (a combination of Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee) because he is surely the most badass fighter fish that has ever lived. He’s happily swimming around his bowl on my shelf right now.

I had in mind at first to put the images together into a progression, so you could see the apparent rainbow color change (editor’s note: I diverged a bit from the traditional ROYGBIV rainbow and went with Newton’s color scale rainbow instead because I thought the lighter blue/cyan popped better) while highlighting one main image. When I post images to social media accounts (FB, Twitter, Tumblr, etc) I usually add a positive or funny little phrase or caption with them. It’s sort of another expression of who I am. I like inspirational sayings. A lot. Makes me feel warm inside. So I added one to the color story, matching the colors up along the scale and highlighting one main image as the initial draw when looking at the story.

This made me re-evaluate past shoots and look for similar inspirational poster themes. And so Inspirational Poster Promos were born. I’m really happy this all stumbled together. I’ve been looking to design a promo that really speaks to what I do, not only my images, but what you get when you work with me as a package. Some goofy fun, some inspirational thoughts and a whole lot of laughing. One main image is highlighted, but you get to see the story panel in how I approach any photo shoot. I’ll be sending out a new one every month. Consider it a little free motivation! Here are a few that are circulating now. Hope you enjoy them.
